A Book Talk Focused on Classroom Applications

Description:
Join us for our next installation of the Library Salon series, where authors Laurie Rabinowitz and Amy Tondreau, along with Bank Street Graduate School of Education alums Charlotte Maltby, GSE ’24, and Todd Lavine, GSE ’22, discuss a cohesive, comprehensive framework for literacy instruction that meets the needs of all learners.

This discussion will be moderated by Amy Stuart Wells, Chief Research Officer, Bank Street College of Education.

About the Presenters
Dr. Laurie Rabinowitz is an assistant professor of education studies at Skidmore College. Her research and teaching focus on preparing elementary educators who enact culturally sustaining and disability sustaining instruction to both able and (dis)abled students. Dr. Amy Tondreau is an assistant professor of elementary literacy at the University of Maryland, Baltimore County. Her research focuses on critical literacy in children’s literature and writing pedagogy, critical teacher education, and the intersection of culturally sustaining pedagogy and disability sustaining pedagogy in elementary literacy instruction. Todd Lavine, GSE ’22, graduate of Bank Street’s Childhood General and Special Education program, is an elementary school special education teacher in Manhattan. He is a former Community School District 13 Equity Fellow and writes about disability-affirming pedagogies and accessible assessments. Charlotte Maltby, GSE ’24, graduate of Bank Street’s Childhood General and Special Education program, is a middle school special education teacher in Manhattan. She writes about neurodiversity, ADHD, and gender as well as designing neurodiverse-affirming, accessible instruction.

Dr. Amy Stuart Wells is the chief research officer and director of the Public Engagement and Research Initiative at Bank Street College of Education and professor emeritus of sociology and education at Teachers College, Columbia University. For more than 30 years, she has worked as a journalist, researcher, university faculty member, and leader to make stronger connections between education policy and practices that foster integration and culturally responsive schools and classrooms.
