Nneka Sutherland is an adjunct instructor in the Leadership in Mathematics Education program at Bank Street Graduate School of Education. Her career is rooted in a deep commitment to progressive education and instructional leadership. She began her journey in education in 2002 as a member of the NYC Teaching Fellows program, a path that solidified her dedication to urban education and equity. With over 20 years of experience in elementary classrooms, Nneka has developed a profound understanding of foundational mathematics and child development. She currently serves as an instructional coach in Granite School District in Utah, where she mentors teachers and supports the implementation of high-quality, student-centered instruction. At Bank Street, Nneka leverages her extensive field experience to help graduate students bridge the gap between mathematical theory and classroom practice, focusing on developing leaders who can foster inclusive learning environments.
