Online Open House: Museum Education & Leadership in Museum Education Programs

Description:
Whether you’re just starting to think about a career in cultural institutions or if you’ve been working at one for awhile, we have a number of different graduate school options for you:

Museum Education: Childhood is right for you if you are interested in working as a museum educator, or as a certified classroom teacher in grades 1 through 6 who has specialized knowledge about museums. While you take courses that will provide you with Childhood Certification, your museum courses will complement these education courses by emphasizing the educational role and mission of museums and schools in a pluralistic society. You will become a teacher who deeply understands children, who can create exciting and responsive curricula, and who has strong skills in working with colleagues and families.

Museum Education (Non-Certification) is right for you if you plan to have a career as a museum educator but do not have an interest in becoming a classroom teacher. Your museum courses will emphasize the educational role and mission of museums and schools in a pluralistic society while your education courses will provide you with the necessary content and pedagogy about teaching and learning. You will become a museum educator who deeply understands children, who can create exciting and responsive curricula, and who has strong skills in working with colleagues and families.

Leadership in Museum Education is for those currently working in an education, public programming or related position in a museum or cultural organization. The program advances leadership skills for students by providing intensive courses on both museum management/organization and museum education/learning. Students meet in NYC one weekend a month plus a week in June, and carry out assignments in their workplace and community.
