Current Course Schedule

Bookmaking for Classroom Teachers (Grades K-6)

This workshop introduces educators to accessible bookmaking techniques for kindergarten through sixth-grade classrooms. Participants will create their own books using methods ranging from simple folded structures to more complex binding techniques, experiencing each process as their students would. The workshop will include practical strategies for adapting techniques to different developmental levels, integrating bookmaking into existing curricula and setting up classroom bookmaking centers with accessible materials. Teachers will leave with several completed book samples, step-by-step instructions for each technique, a resources list, and concrete ideas for implementing bookmaking as both a standalone activity and a meaningful tool for learning across their curricula.

      Scott Teplin
Artist Scott Teplin was born and raised in Milwaukee, Wisconsin and has been living in New York City since 1995. The tension between safety and discovery remains a central theme in his work. He is fascinated by how children naturally navigate this balance, often with more wisdom than we give them credit for. Teplin has exhibited world-wide in Museums and commercial galleries since 1998. His work is included in the permanent collections of Museum of Modern Art (NY and SF), The New Museum, Brooklyn Museum of Art, Spencer Art Museum, Walker Art Center, Smithsonian Institution, New York Public Library, among others. He earned a BS degree in Art at the University of Wisconsin, Madison and an MFA in printmaking at University of Washington.
