2025 Bank Street Dialogue: Education Today
Description:
Join President Shael Polakow-Suransky, GSE ’00; Suzanne McCotter, Bank Street’s new Dean of the Graduate School of Education; Allyx Schiavone, GSE ’94, Executive Director of the Friends Center for Children; and Marcel Deans, GSE ’06, ’18, Superintendent of Bronx High Schools (Districts 8, 10 and 11) for a candid conversation about the future of progressive education at a moment when schools and the teaching profession face mounting challenges.
From classroom libraries facing challenges over book selection, to families seeking assurances about student health and safety, to school communities grappling with the impact of political rhetoric on young people, educators today are being asked to navigate increasingly complex terrain. Together, Shael and Suzanne will share their vision for Bank Street’s role as a leader in progressive education and explore how teachers and school leaders can remain grounded in their values while building supportive communities that help them sustain their work.
This interactive event welcomes alumni, graduate students, faculty, and guests to ask questions, share experiences, and engage in meaningful dialogue about the future of education. Representatives from the Straus Center for Young Children & Families, the Center for Emotionally Responsive Practice, and the Bank Street Education Center will be present and are eager to connect with you!
