Event Title:
Virtual Information Session | Teacher Residency Programs
Description:
On Tuesday, January 7, 2025 from 6 PM – 7:00 PM (EST), our Office of Graduate Admissions will be hosting a virtual information session for our residency programs in Childhood General & Special Education and Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages. At this event, you’ll hear from faculty as well as the offices of Graduate Admissions and Financial Aid. Through Bank Street’s teacher residency programs, you’ll combine hands-on practice in a classroom with your graduate coursework. As a teacher resident in one of our programs, you’ll work alongside an experienced mentor teacher to develop your skills and learn by doing; complete your program in approximately two years; receive a scholarship that reduces your tuition by over 50%; earn a stipend of up to $30,000 in your first year of residency; and have the opportunity to be hired to teach full time and with benefits in your second year while you complete advanced coursework and final projects for your master’s degree program and teaching certification.
- Childhood Special and General Education Teacher Residency Program: This two-year teacher residency in Childhood Special and General Education is a cohort program leading to dual certification and a Master of Science in Education. In its first four years, cohorts were placed in NYC’s Districts 13 and 16 in Brooklyn, as well as in District 3 in Manhattan. For cohorts 5 and beyond, we are expanding beyond NYC through district and organizational partnerships to provide a structured literacy residency.
- TESOL Teacher Residency Program: Our teacher residency program in Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL), launched in 2019, is designed for prospective teachers who are interested in working with students learning English as a new language (ENL) in grades pre-K-12. Students earn their master’s degree and teaching certification while working as a teacher apprentice at public schools within New York State through district and organizational partnerships.
