Bank Street Film Screening: The Sun Rises In The East with Fela Barclift, GSE ’02
Description:
Join the Bank Street community for our second annual January film screening! This year, we will watch The Sun Rises In The East (2022), a documentary directed by Tayo Giwa and featuring “Mama” Fela Barclift, GSE ’02 and 2018 recipient of the BSCAA Recognition Award. This film traces the advent and legacy of the pan-African organization and movement, “The East,” based in Brooklyn from the 1960s through the 1980s.
Following the screening, there will be a talkback/Q&A with Mama Fela moderated by Misha Paskar, GSE ’13, chair of the BSCAA Social Justice Committee. The evening will end with a social reception.
Doors open at 5:00 PM. Guests will be asked to take their seats by 5:15 PM. Light refreshments will be provided during the reception.
Whether you’re an alum of the Graduate School or School for Children, a current student, a faculty or staff member, or a friend of Bank Street, we’d love to see you there!
