Description:
Join artist, graduate faculty member, GSE alum ’75, and 2006 BSCAA Distinguished Service Award recipient Sal Vascellaro for an artist talk. He will discuss the role teachers played in his process to begin working with clay within the last four years.

With this exhibit, entitled, “Un-centered Balance,” Sal Vascellaro attempts to give inanimate objects a sense of movement. The resulting work, mostly vessels, conveys tension between that sense of movement and balance. They are essentially sculptural forms. He hand-builds the objects using the ancient process of coiling, which is used by many Native American and African societies, and by many contemporary ceramicists. Much of the work is smoke fired in self-made kilns.

Sal’s book, Out of the Classroom and Into the World, is used in colleges throughout the country.
