Library Salon #40: Queer Culture at Bank Street

Description:

In celebration of Pride Month, Library Salon #40 will explore Bank Street’s rich queer history and its connection to the present moment. The event will feature a conversation the following Bank Street community members:

  • Margie Brickley, GSE ’89, is a Graduate School faculty member and advisor. She is the co-author of several online and print publications about queer families, including the Families chapter in Anti-Bias Education for Young Children and Ourselves.
  • Jonathan Silin is former editor-in-chief of the Occasional Paper Series and a former Graduate School faculty member.
  • Peter Hare is the reference librarian at Bank Street. He is a former School for Children parent affinity group co-chair and parent to a rising high school senior.
  • Grace Handy is archivist and special collections librarian at Bank Street, working to increase access to the archives and preserve and expand Bank Street’s collections. With a dual master’s degree in Library Science and History from Queens College, CUNY, Grace also currently teaches information literacy at Queens College and does archival work for The City University of New York and with Librarians and Archivists with Palestine.
  • Roz Lee is a current School for Children parent and a former School for Children parent affinity group leader.
  • Andrea Ortega-Williams is a is a current School for Children parent and School for Children LGBTQA+ affinity group co-chair.
  • Ro Peña, GSE 20′, is a former School for Children teacher and founder of Trans formative Schools
  • Gio Capone (moderator) is the director of community building and inclusive affairs at the Graduate School of Education. As an educator, he values building meaningful relationships and collaborative partnerships with faculty and staff across the organization, working together toward a shared commitment to embedding equity in all we do. He is also a PhD student in higher and post-secondary education at Teachers College.
