  • Program Overview

    In this program you will learn the skills necessary to be a social worker working with babies, toddlers and families in a variety of settings.

    You will learn from experienced faculty at both Bank Street College and Hunter College as you earn two Master’s degrees.

    • For applicants seeking a Master’s degree in social work with a specialization in early development.
    • Leads to eligibility for licensure as a social worker.
    • This program does not lead to certification in education.
    • This program is open to international applicants.

    This program culminates in a Master of Science in Education, requiring 34 credits, and a Master of Social Work, with additional course requirements for the social work degree from Hunter College School of Social Work.

    Application Deadlines

    • Applications are reviewed in rounds to ensure you receive a timely decision.
    • You will have five business days after the application deadlines to finish providing any missing required materials. Incomplete applications will be moved to the next round for consideration.
    • In some cases, applications submitted after the final deadline will be reviewed on a space available basis.
    • We strongly encourage you to submit your application as early as possible. This guarantees the most timely admissions decision and the broadest consideration for scholarships and financial aid.

    Admissions Criteria

    No prior teaching certification is necessary for this program.

    In addition to meeting other admissions requirements, to be eligible for admission to the Infant & Family Development and Early Intervention/Dual Degree with Hunter College School of Social Work program you must:

    Tuition

    At Bank Street, tuition is charged per credit. The Infant & Family Development and Early Intervention/Dual Degree with Hunter College School of Social Work program requires 34 credits from Bank Street for completion. The Master of Social Work from Hunter requires an additional 51 credits, which are billed by Hunter at their current tuition rate. Read more on our Tuition page

  • Supervised Fieldwork

    The heart of the program is a year-long supervised fieldwork experience.

    • Your opportunity to connect theory and practice.
    • You will have a reflective relationship with a mentor and a group of peers.
    • Your experiences will include typically developing children, as well as with children with more specialized needs.
    • You will have the flexibility to do your fieldwork in a paid position or as a student teacher.

    Note: Additional fieldwork is required at Hunter College.

    This program culminates in a Master of Science in Education, requiring 34 credits, and a Master of Social Work, with additional course requirements for the social work degree from Hunter College School of Social Work.
