A Leading Graduate School in New York City for Teachers, Leaders, and Education Professionals

Welcome to Bank Street, where we prepare teachers, educators, and school leaders to transform our world in large and small ways. As a graduate student, you’ll learn how to improve the quality of classroom practice, advocate nationally for students and families, and promote systems that bring effective and equitable teaching and learning to all.

You’ll choose from more than 50 in-person or online programs focused on teaching and learning, educational leadership, and specialty areas, such as infancy, child life, museum studies, and more. These programs lead to the Master of Science (MS), Master of Science in Education (MSEd), or the advanced Master of Education (EdM). We also offer a range of continuing education options, including professional certificate programs, short-format courses, workshops, and special events both online and at our physical location on the Upper West Side in Morningside Heights, an academic hub of New York City. We invite you to learn more about us.

Bank Street holds a unique place in the world of education. We were trailblazers when we were founded in 1916, and we’re trailblazers now. Our strengths- and evidence-based approaches to teaching and learning—which were once radical—are widely practiced and accepted today. If you want to shape the future of education, this is where you start.

  • Hands-On Practice

Through extensive supervised fieldwork, our graduates gain the experience and confidence required to excel as a teacher or leader on day one. You’ll spend one year working and learning in environments that match your career goals while being mentored by Bank Street faculty both on- and off-site. You’ll also collaborate and reflect regularly with an advisor and a small group of classmates in weekly conference groups that build relationships and deepen reflection and shared learning.

I am a reader. I read. All the time. Reading is what made me want to become a teacher. I wanted to encourage kids to love reading the way that I love reading.

Meet our alumni
I do my best work when I focus on the strengths of students, staff, and parents. I won’t lie, my first few years of teaching were hard, but Bank Street prepared me to take on the challenge. In the dual general and special education program, classes are small and the approach is progressive. It fit who I am perfectly.
