Summer is a great time to explore the city and participate in events that may be both enjoyable and meaningful. For educators and graduate students who may have the season off, keeping up with what’s happening in education and around the city may offer a way to keep our brains sharp even through the haze of summer. Take a look at some of these events for some cool options through the early part of the season.
Georgia O’Keeffe: Visions of Hawai’i
New York Botanical Garden, Bronx NY
June 23 – August 18
According to Time Out NY: “learn how to hula, watch lei-making demos, explore installations by Hawaiian-Chinese sculptor Mark Chai, listen to live music and fuel it all with a poke bowl and a cup (or two) of Passiflora Punch.” Sounds good to me.
Yoga on the Beach
Beach at 108th Street (in Rockaway Beach and Boardwalk), Queens
July 14 from 8:15 – 9:15 AM
According to the NYC Parks organization, “join Yoga instructor Helen Kilgallen from Ocean Bliss Yoga in this Hatha Yoga class. Bring a mat, large towel or blanket.”
Summer on the Hudson: Everybody Tango!
West Harlem Piers, Manhattan
Every Thursday from June 7 – July 26
6:45 – 7:45 PM
Learn to dance Argentine Tango on the piers as you enjoy music and dancing in the sunset alongside the waterfront.
