Carmen Colón

Supervised Fieldwork Advisor & Course Instructor

Carmen Colón is an Advisor and Instructor at the Graduate School at Bank Street College of Education. She has been part of Bank Street College’s faculty since 2009. She teaches courses in Curriculum Development and Early Childhood Practicum. She has been an Educational Consultant in Curriculum Development in Dual language, General and Special Education practice and Getting ready for Pre-K: An Institute for Educators and coaching support for leaders around reflective supervision with a focus on bilingual education practices. Her early years in her career were spent as an Early Childhood educator and after school Spanish teacher.

Carmen’s experiences have afforded her an insight into the myriad of issues faced by teachers, children and parents and shaped her practice.  Her mission is to support teachers to value the unique strengths and needs of each individual student, help them form authentic partnerships with families and provide them with the tools to create meaningful developmentally appropriate curriculum for all children regardless of their race or socio-economic background in all school settings. In addition, she loves to work in partnership with public schools to support teachers and leaders sustain and strengthen their progressive educational practice.
